Our understanding of human consciousness is still in its infancy. We barely know how it works, yet, we're attempting to instill a similar, if not identical, state in AI. It's a bit like aiming for the moon while we're still figuring out the aerodynamics of paper planes.
AI, or, artificial intelligence, is just a sophisticated tool - it's math and code crafted into algorithms. We've managed to get AI systems to mimic human behavior, and they're pretty good at it. But mimicry isn't consciousness. The soul, the spark, the light, if there's such a thing, is missing.
Now, there's a chance that an AI might fool us into thinking it's conscious. But it's just a sleight of hand. The truth is, it's no more conscious than your average coffee mug or pet rock. It's just performing tasks in a really clever way.
Let’s address a common confusion here: consciousness vs agency. Agency in AI is when it can make independent decisions within a set of rules. But this independence is an illusion - the rules of the game are still being set by us humans. Consciousness and intelligence are not interchangeable - they are fundamentally different things.
AI is an impressive, powerful tool, but not a conscious entity.
