In the movie Soul, the main character Joe discovers that after he finally “made it” as a professional jazz musician, it wasn’t as good as he thought it would be. Getting to the end wasn’t the point. He learns that the point of life is to “jazz” by enjoying life as a journey and improvising along the way. The point is to experience the music.
Music is meant to be enjoyed as a journey, as an experience. The point of music isn’t simply to get to the end of the song. If that were true, then a song would be over as soon as it started. It would be just one note. It wouldn’t be a song. It would be nothing.
All too often we rush through life by wanting to get to some golden finish line. We trick ourselves into thinking that once we “make it” then we can finally be happy instead of practicing happiness right here and now.
The opposite of rushing through life is experiencing the present moment and enjoying this part of the song. Treating life like music makes it more interesting, and similar to jazz, we improvise along the way.
Embrace the music and start jazzing.
I love this message about JAZZ. Thank you for sharing.
