Time affluence
Time is the most precious thing that you have but it isn’t always obvious.
Money comes and goes but time doesn't. You can’t credit time and then get it back at a later date — and for some reason your silly ape-like brain often loses sight of that.
Real wealth is about having the time to dedicate toward doing the things you want to do. This is called "time affluence." Therefore if you value having more time then you want to construct your life in a way that gives you more of it.
Now, of course all of us don’t have the luxury of a thick wallet and hefty bank account, so you have to earn money.
But you need to look long and hard at how much time you’re giving up for that money. You need to ask yourself if there are more fulfilling ways of spending your time in order to achieve the same or better results.
Instead of filling your calendar with nonsense, you can create room and space in your life for thinking and absorbing, for not doing a single thing, for new projects, for play, for simply being. You do this by saying no to things that you don’t want to do.
Time also starts to speed up when sameness persists, when our routines become monotonous. Weeks go by in a blur and feel like the blink of an eye. This is scary because you feel like you’re losing control.
And then there are experiences where time feels like it slows down. Travel is the ultimate hack for slowing down time. You can take a two-week trip to a foreign land and it will feel like you'd been there for months, remembering each day extremely vividly.
So it’s worth remembering that you should take the time to think about time. If you want more of it, do something about it by reorganizing your life.
